Susan Axelrod

Susan Axelrod, 74, of Ocala, FL and formerly of Avon Lake, OH passed away peacefully on Monday, September 5, 2022 in Ocala. She was born on February 14, 1948 to parents Louis and Thelma (nee Litt) Schuman in Far Rockaway, New York.

Susan was a graduate of Cleveland State University, earning her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in history. She worked for Lee Fisher and Eric Fingerhut, and was also a grant writer. She later was the campaign manager for Mike White in his bid for Mayor of the City of Cleveland, and went on to serve as his Executive Assistant during his tenure as Mayor. She was also the Local Director of Handgun Control Federation, and later the Director of the Department of Senior and Adult Services for Cuyahoga County.

Susan enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was very generous and kind, and spent time volunteering with her local SPCA chapter. She loved watching Star Trek and Star Wars movies, listening to Bobby Darin music, and also enjoyed doing ceramics, reading, and playing Solitaire and Mah Jong. Susan was a past president and proud member of Temple B'nai Abraham in Elyria, and a member of Temple B'nai Darom in Ocala.

Susan is survived by her loving children Marc (Jeanne) Axelrod, Sara (Paul) Axelrod Janousek, and Jon (Rhonda) Axelrod; cherished grandchildren Justin Imrie, Bailey (Adam) Pastva, Molly Imrie (Damaso Bautista), and Chase Axelrod (Alexyss Guy); and beloved great-grandchildren Kristopher, Victoria, Emilia, Dylan, Callen. She was dog mom to her beloved Sadie; sister to the late Robert Schuman and Michael Schuman; and devoted wife to the late Howard Axelrod.

Family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, September 11, 2022 from 10:00 until 11:00 am at Busch Funeral Home 114 Second St, Elyria, OH 44035.
