Sang B. Rhee, M.D.

Sang Rhee, dedicated and beloved husband, father, grandfather and physician, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 29, 2022.

Sang was born in Korea on an island with no electricity, 95 years ago. He went to boarding school when he was 12, in Seoul, Korea and later attended Seoul University and medical school.

He immigrated to the United States in 1958, first to Seattle, Washington, where he ate pancakes for days because it was the only thing he recognized by picture.

Later, he came to Cleveland Ohio to do a residency in Obstetrics/Gynecology. Due to his expiring visa he met and married the love of his life after only knowing her for six weeks, Susan V. Rhee (nee Kelsey). They have been married, mostly happily, for 60 years.

Sang worked tirelessly as a physician for nearly 40 years, delivering babies across Northeast Ohio at both Deaconess Hospital and Parma Hospital. He was remembered fondly as a caring, kind doctor and was frequently recognized even after his retirement by former patients who would stop him to say hello and share a kind word or story.

Sang is survived by the love of his life, Susan V. Rhee (nee Kelsey); his almost perfect children, Jennifer Bueck, Edward Rhee (Melissa Molina) and Margaret Rhee; and his perfect grandchildren, McKenzie Bueck (Joseph Danto), H. Ethan Bueck, Ariana Ortiz, Esa Malik and Lilah Malik.

A celebration of Sang's life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023 at 11:00 at Parma South Presbyterian Church, 6155 Pearl Road, Parma Heights, Ohio. Following the service, a catered luncheon will be provided at the church.
