Richard P Crawford

Born an almost Christmas Baby to Bessie Louise (nee Moneypenny) Crawford & Peter Ignatius Rusnak Crawford, their youngest son. Beloved Uncle, family member, and constant companion of Amy Faith Folger and his Great Nephew Dakota Brady Folger-Reeder, Julianna Sabrina Apollonio, and faithful fur baby-Roxxy Raven Folger. Loved by the whole Millard & Nikki Folger Family, Cousins Kay Potetz and Linda Rich, and Cousin Candy Young. Special family friends, Gertie Brito, Shary Ring, David Nigro, Peggy Toczek, Jim Burian, Todd & Ruthie Schwartz, Rae and Alex Rokakis, and Maria Mascia & Mike Wheeler. Preceded in death by Dennis Stramel, Dean "Baby Jane" Mortimer, Bobby Burian, and his siblings Louise & Anna, Tommy, Betty, and Mary. Survived by his only living brother Joe and many nieces and nephews-special nieces, Nancy Borosky and Linda Page.

Richard was raised on the lower Westside of Cleveland and attended Thomas Jefferson Junior High School in 1963 and then graduated from West High School in 1965. He started working in restaurants at the tender age of 13 at his Uncle Peter's Egg Palace on Lorain Rd. He worked in many restaurants as a server, bartender, wine captain, maître d, and manager in the Cleveland /Akron areas.

He was most proud of his time as banquet manager at the Holiday Inn Lakeside where he often served Bishop Pilla and many Diocesan Priests. He also managed the dining room at the Cleveland Athletic Club, and was Wine Captain at Classics Dining Room at the Cleveland Clinic where he served Kings and Sheiks alike. He worked at The Bistro De Artist, Francesca's, Mr. Z's, and Tangiers. His last restaurant job was at the Olive Garden in Middleburg Hts. where he was affectionately called "King Farouk" and "The Wise Old Sage" for holding court in the lane while dispensing all sorts of advice to the many young servers and bartenders who were his friends and family, helping solve all of their love and life problems.

Richard suffered for over 32 years and had many debilitating health issues including three brain surgeries, open heart surgery, 25 heart stents, type 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease, severe anxiety, and so much more, but overcame them all with constant prayer, the love of God and his family, good doctoring, old fashioned grit, and perseverance. Special thanks to Dr. Azmat Hussain, Dr. Umbreen Hussain, Dr. Zuhayr Madhun, Dr. Craig Eyman, Dr. Daniel Polster, Jeffery P. Riskin, LISW, Dr. Paul Bryson, and Dr. Joseph Bartal- without all your, love, care and knowledge he would never have survived so long.

Richard was a Catholic man of great faith, love, and respect for God. He was a recovered alcoholic, having just celebrated his 46 years Sober Anniversary in November of 2021.

He was beloved by his parish family at St. John Bosco Church for over 25 years, where he worked a short time cooking for the priests, volunteered working the fish fries, and helped with the chocolate fountain at their annual International Festival.

He was a great story teller and keeper of days gone by. He was a talking historian and knew the map of the Cleveland of yesteryear. He enjoyed taking rides downtown to reminisce about the old days on the Square. He loved to sing around the house, especially Home on the Range, Popeye the Sailor Man, and Happy Trails. He also was a music lover; especially disco, and artists, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, and Donna Summer.

His love of food and fine dining never ended. He thought of himself as a Food Critic and critiqued everything from his Quarter Pounder at McDonalds to his Salmon at a fine dining restaurant. Dining out was his favorite pastime, especially at Pier W where he loved to celebrate his birthday and many holidays. His gentleness, his generous nature, his love for animals, especially geese, pigs and his "baby" doggies-Pippy, Sade Marie, & Roxxy Raven, his zest for life, his story telling, his constant care, forever phone calling, and his love will be greatly missed, especially by Phyllis and Baby Dumps Le Fong.

Rest In Peace with Mama and Anna in the Rose Garden....
