Raoul Perez, 79 of Avon Lake; beloved husband of Dottie (nee Hama) for 48 yrs.; son of the late Anthony and Marian (nee Reiber); brother of the late Dale and Anthony; uncle of Lydia Ruiz-Perez (Ann), Lynn Maruna (Dave), Laura Perez (Jimmy), Leah Hensley (Brian), Christopher Cirvencic (Megan); great uncle of Nathan, Mercer, Cassie, Ana, Amado; great, great uncle of Millie; cousin to many.
In addition to loving his family and friends, Raoul loved teaching students. A graduate of Kent State University with a master's degree in education, he enthusiastically accepted a social studies position with the Cleveland Public Schools in 1964 at Wilson Junior High. He later transferred to Thomas Jefferson Junior High (which he attended as a teenager) and taught at John Marshall High School as well.
Having a love for business endeavors, Raoul left teaching after 13 years to become a production supervisor at General Motors in 1980. Shortly thereafter he became a manager in the EEO office, and later became Supervisor of Education and Training until the plant closed in 1987. Raoul was a real estate office manager with Smythe Cramer Co. in Lakewood and later moved to Realty One in Parma Heights. His alma mater, Kent State University, recruited him to be an academic advisor for undergraduate and graduate business students in their program at LCCC in Elyria, from which he retired.
Raoul's passion for music and singing was resounding! He shared his strong tenor voice with many local church choirs, including St. Stephen's in Cleveland, St. Stephen's Latin Chant Group, Holy Spirit and St. Joseph's in Avon Lake, Holy Trinity in Avon, St. Raphael's in Bay Village, Avon Methodist, and Bay Village Presbyterian Promise Choir. He traveled with that choir to Russia for a special musical medical mission trip. Seasonal performances of the LCCC Community Choir were also enhanced with his singing.
Finally, his special love was playing bridge in many private groups and at the Avon Lake Senior Center. The games enriched him immensely with many wonderful friends.
