Mary E Durbin

Mary E. Durbin (nee Widener) age 93, formerly of Elyria, OH for 54 years, passed away on November 28, 2021, at Elms Retirement Village in Wellington, OH following a lengthy illness.

She was born to parents Robert and Maggie Widener (nee Greer) in Abingdon, Virginia.

Mary attended Kent State University where she received her master's degree in education.

She was an elementary school teacher for Brush Elementary in Grafton. She was in the education field for 54 years including her time on the Lorain County Board of Education as a County Supervisor. She later retired in 1997.

Mary had lots of energy and loved to give to her community. She was a foster mother for many years to many foster children. She was also in top sales with Longaberger Baskets and Pampered Chef where she attended many shows. Her energy and compassion for the things she loved never diminished.

Beloved mother of Judy Pawinski of North Carolina, Gene (Brenda) Durbin of Wakeman, OH, George (Reen) Durbin of North Carolina, and Brenda (Dave) Karnofel of Texas; dear grandmother of Carla, Katie (Josh), Tony (Dana), William (Tiara), Ryan (Christina), Derek (Allison), Nicole, David (Kim), and Jenny (Par); loving great-grandmother of many and great-great grandmother of one.

Preceded in death by her five brothers, Bob, Cliff, Lloyd, Paul, and Clayton Durbin; three sisters, Clarice, Mable and Lois; and former husband Arland J. Durban (1998)

Friends may call to Abbe Road Baptist Church, 670 Abbe Road, Elyria on Saturday, December 4 from 2-4pm. Funeral service to follow at 4pm with Rev. Calvin Searles officiating. Arrangements made by Busch Funeral Home.
