Lorraine Stevenson Curtiss transitioned peacefully to her Heavenly Home on June 8, 2022. Lorraine was born July 2, 1945, to Anna Weaver and George Stevenson in Detroit, Michigan.
Lorraine accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined the Asia Missionary Baptist Church at an early age under Pastor Grant Friley. She played the piano for the church.
Lorraine was active in basketball, swimming, tennis, and track, lettering in more sports than the boys when she graduated from Eastern High School (Detroit). Her basketball team was undefeated. She was known in high school as "Big Steve." She was a lifeguard and also trained in swimming for the Olympics. She was also a former Girl Scout.
Lorraine attended Lewis Business College, Detroit Institute of Commerce, Lorain Business College, and Lorain County Joint Vocational School.
Lorraine married Robert Lee Curtiss in Toledo, Ohio. She was the Bookkeeper for her husband's gas station in Detroit. She also worked for Bonded, Tappan, Lorain County Community Action Agency, Oberlin College, Lorain County, Elyria Methodist Home/Wesleyan Village, U.S. Census Bureau, and Custom Cleaning. Mom was also considered the "Town Notary Public" throughout Lorain County. She was also a tax preparer. She received numerous awards for being a pillar in her community, making a positive impact, and she believed in giving back and paying it forward. She was also the "Family Historian."
Lorraine leaves to mourn her passing: Daughters - Laleise D. Curtiss, Kim V. Curtiss-Blevins; Sons - Quentin E. Jackson, Preston E. Curtiss (Shayla), and Cleatrice "Bud" Newson that she reared as her son; all of Elyria. Grandchildren - Kimonique L. Blevins, Precious P.L. Curtiss, Deziray Chisholm, Quentin "Q" Jackson, Imani Jackson, Jayla Jackson. Great Grandchildren - Kaeloni Jenkins, Mario Williams, Demi Matthews, Axara Jackson, William "Deuce" Childress, Jr., Isiasis Kirkendoll; Sisters - Evelyn Weaver and Rosetta Thornton of Detroit, Michigan; Lillie Bellamy Tripp and Ellen Bellamy Martin of Buckeye, Arizona; brother Daniel V. Bellamy (Shirley) of Detroit; special cousin Joyce E. Burgess of Detroit; lifelong friend Gloria Jean Riggs Brown of Detroit, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and her beloved dog Biscuit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, brother Sammie, sister Mary Louise, favorite son-in-law Karl R. Blevins, Sr., great uncle and great aunt John and Viola McKinley who reared her.
Friends may call at the BUSCH FUNERAL HOME, 114 Second St., Elyria, OH 44035 from 5pm-8pm on Friday, June 17, 2022. Family hour viewing will be at the Funeral Home on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 11am, followed by the Celebration of Life at 12pm. Pastor Calvin Currie, Officiating.
