Joanne Gail Polačok (nee Bretsnyder), age 83, died peacefully at home on January 6, 2022. Born in Homestead, PA in 1938, Joanne was a graduate of Westminster College, PA (BA) and earned her Masters in Education from Duke University, Chapel Hill, NC. A teacher for more than 13 years in the Avon Lake School System, she influenced countless young people. She was an active member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church for fifty years, serving in various capacities including Sunday school teacher and confirmation mentor.
Joanne is preceeded in death by parents Michael and Laura Belle Bretsnyder; and brother Robert.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years John T. Polačok of Avon Lake, OH. She will be sorely missed by her children Rev. John M. Polačok (Tammy Aitken) of Hanover, Ontario, Laura Musat (Carl) of Avon Lake, OH, and Alicia Polačok (Shaun Kelly) of Portland, OR; granddaughters Alyson Musat (Anthony Covelli) and Carah Musat; sister Virginia Sheppard; many nieces and nephews; and so many other friends and relatives.
