Joanne E. Linder, age 81 of Avon Lake, Ohio peacefully passed away into the arms of her Lord on May 6, 2022. She was born on April 8, 1941, to parents Harry and Esther (Yoder) Linder in Canton, Ohio.
Joanne grew up in Canton and after graduating from Glenwood High School she went to nursing school and obtained her RN from Aultman School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse in various specialties but found her home with Ohio Chest Physicians where she worked for over 30 years until it changed to Pulmonary Medical Associates where she was honored with a wonderful retirement party after 40+ years of nursing.
Joanne was a devoted member of Bay Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. She was a deacon and a proud member of multiple choirs over the years as well as the Promise Choir. Joanne was very dedicated to her church, various Bible study groups, the Stephen Ministry and loved having an active role at Bay Presbyterian Church. She spent many hours with the choir performing at numerous prisons and inner-city churches to share many songs of Jesus. Joanne spent an impressive 50+ years of her life singing in choirs. During that time, Joanne and the choir participated in a great deal of community service work, helping at local charities, traveling to Romania to serve those in need as well as working in soup kitchens throughout the Cleveland area. Joanne was always there to volunteer and to sing at any service at any time.
Joanne was one of the early members in the formation of the West Shore Water Ski Club where she was a part of yearly ski shows with family and friends performing in six-man pyramids and ballet skiing. She taught many new members to waterski over the years and gained many lifelong friendships. She participated in all of the ski club activities as well as being crowned Ski Queen.
Joanne spent a good part of her life taking care of other people. As the eldest sister, she helped care for all of her younger siblings. As a nurse, she took great care of her patients and got to know each one of them. As a mother, she lovingly cared for her daughters and shared many pieces of good advice and wisdom to last a lifetime; and as a grandmother, she delighted in spending time with her grandchildren.
The most important aspect of Joanne's life was her two daughters and their families. She loved celebrating birthdays and holidays together. Mostly, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and always had fun activities planned: baking, trips to the playground, coloring Easter eggs, sewing, wrapping Christmas presents, bedtime lullabies, picnics at the beach, playing apple store, and having the kids make sidewalk chalk masterpieces for her. She loved to have her grandchildren over for sleepovers and looked forward to "the parents" taking vacations so she could babysit and have them all to herself.
Music brought joy to Joanne's life, especially classical music. Through her music, she brought joy to those around her while playing the piano and singing. The one memory that everyone will cherish and miss about Joanne is that on every birthday, every family member knew they would receive a phone call that day from Joanne singing the "Happy Birthday" song, in its entirety, in perfect pitch. She will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved her.
She is survived by her beloved daughters Michelle Phelan (Bryan) and Melissa Reisch (TJ); loving grandchildren Caitlin Phelan, Jimmy Phelan, Lexi Reisch, and Jack Reisch; dear siblings Walter Linder (Julia, deceased), Judy Linder (sister-in-law), Joe Linder (Linda), Julie Gingerich (Dave) and John Linder (Cheryl); Jim Miller (father of her children) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents and her dear brother, Russell Linder.
