Jane Schmitz

Jane E. Schmitz (nee DeChant), 96, of North Olmsted, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2022. She was born March 16, 1926 in North Ridgeville, Ohio to parents Lawrence and Stella (nee Lehman) DcChant.

Jane was a 1944 graduate of North Ridgeville High School and went on to nursing school at St. Vincent Hospital in Cleveland. She earned her degree as a registered nurse and enjoyed her career at Fairview Hospital. Jane worked in the maternity ward for over 20 years and lovingly cared for the postpartum mothers and infants until her retirement in late 1980’s.

Jane was also a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed many hobbies including knitting, pottery, gardening, and canning and jelly making. She enjoyed traveling with her husband Ray and camping while exploring the many parks in Ohio. She was an accomplished baker, best known for her holiday chocolates and candies, and a wonderful cook. Jane was active in the historical society, North Olmsted Senior Center, volunteered at the Brookside Food Pantry and the Blood Mobile, and was active in the garden club.

Jane is survived by her loving children Larry (Carolyn), Patricia (Stephen) Naczinski, William, and Alan (Christine); cherished grandsons Wyatt, Zach, Nick, Alex, Michael, and Dave (Katrina); and dear sister Marilyn (Robert) Guide. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 64 years Raymond.
