Don Kontner

Don E. Kontner, 91, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2022. Don was born in Nelsonville and moved to Walbridge at a young age. He graduated from Walbridge high school in 1949.

Don served his country in the Navy during the Korean War as a radio operator on the U.S.S. Picking, a destroyer. He worked for the C&O Railroad and was the youngest Yard Master at the time at age 28. He then worked for 22 years for the Department of Defense as a computer specialist, he retired in 1991.

Don was a sports enthusiast and more importantly an Ohio State Buckeye Fan. He was a devoted Baptist and served as a deacon. Don loved to sing and was a fan of gospel music. He sang for over 30 years with The Master's Men, Homelighters, and Cornerstone Quartets as a bass singer.

Don married his high school sweetheart Sandra (nee Akenberger) in 2004. He leaves his beloved Sandra and her children, Cheri Swan and Reggie Bitter (Susan); grandchildren, Katherine Wrable (Curt), Michael Swan, Samuel Bitter, Jacob Bitter (Rebekka), and Julia Bitter.
