David W. Sommer, age 91 of Wadsworth, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2022. Beloved husband of Esther K. Sommer (nee Christensen) for 68 years; loving father of Donald Sommer (Kathleen), the late Lawrence Sommer (Kimberly), Barbara Weber (Dirk), Karen McFarland (Donnie, deceased), and Michael Sommer (Lynn); devoted grandfather of Matthew Sommer (Jessica), Thomas Sommer (Allison), Joseph Sommer, Victoria Soto, David M. Sommer, Alan Weber (Nichelle), Michelle Hoover (Jeff), Andrew McFarland (Gustavo), Daniel McFarland (fiancée Melissa Wells), Ryan McFarland (Julie), Amber Ratliff (James), and Heather Sommer; great-grandfather of Theodore Weber, Alice Weber, Nicolina Peet, and Baby Hoover. Preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Gertrude Sommer (nee Timm) and sibings, Richard (Linda, deceased) and Janet Kregenow (Robert, deceased).
Dave was born and raised in Cleveland, OH. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. Along with his wife, Esther, Dave owned and operated Christensen Greenhouse in Cleveland. He was a longtime member of Parma Lutheran Church and volunteered at the Parma Hunger Center for almost 20 years. He donated over six gallons of blood to the American Red Cross through a blood drive at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Parma Hunger Center at Parma Lutheran Church, 5280 Broadview Rd., Parma, OH 44134.
Funeral service at 11am on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at the BUSCH FUNERAL HOME, 7501 Ridge Rd., Parma, OH 44129 with visitation prior at 10am. The family will also receive friends from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at the funeral home. Private interment with Navy Honors at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
