Barbara Berner

Barbara Caroline Berner (nee Bruder), age 84, went home to our Lord, Tuesday, December 20, 2022 surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness. Born December 30, 1937, at St. Joe's hospital in Lorain, Barb was raised in Avon and graduated in 1955 from Avon High School. She met her husband, Fred, at the Avon Isle Park dance hall in Avon and married in 1955 settling in Avon Lake. Barb worked for over 30 years in food service first in catering with Novotny Catering and later as a lunch lady starting at Redwood Elementary and working her way up to head cook at Avon Lake High School where she retired after 25 years of service.

Barb enjoyed the simple things in life like working outside in her yard and gardens, crocheting afghans for her ever-expanding family, crossword puzzles, and watching sports. An avid Indians (Guardians) fan, she rarely missed listening to or watching games and attended hundreds of high school sporting events. She was a member of the Isabella Guild of the Knights of Columbus and later the Red Hats Society. An excellent baker and cook, Barb's kitchen was the centerpiece and main gathering spot for family and friends. For Barb there was no such thing as a small get together and her love, life, and recipe cards were supersized - a true reflection of her life and legacy.

Celebrating Barb's arrival in heaven are her husband Fred, son Paul, granddaughter Rebecca, parents Aloysius and Bertha Bruder (Schuster), brothers Bernie and Ted Bruder, and sister Mary Ann Czarney.

Her legacy includes her children and their spouses, Chris Berner, Joe (Cindy) Berner, Cindy (Tim) Gallagher, Fred (Brenda) Berner, Rob (Mary) Berner, John (Charlene) Berner, Lori (Jim) Craft, Mari (Dan) Sullinger, and Mike (Cassie) Berner; daughter in law Joyce Berner; 27 adored grandchildren and their spouses; 34 cherished great-grandchildren; brother Jim (Bobbie) Bruder and 10 nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 29, 2022 from 4:00 - 8:00pm at Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon Belden Rd, Avon Lake, OH 44012. Funeral service will be Friday, December 30, 2022 at 11:00am at Anchor Church, 32607 Electric Blvd, Avon Lake. Private burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Avon. www.buschcares.com 440-933-3202
